The Beta Beta Beta National Biological Honor Society was founded in 1922 at Oklahoma City University to encourage students of the sciences to expand mankind's knowledge of biology. The three βs of TriBeta are representative of the greek words balanos, boudetase, and boax, meaning acorn, bird, and fish , respectively. These symbols represent life in the earth, sky and sea. The crest (shown above) and the key are marked with symbolic representations of these words as well as the serpent, which is the classic symbol for wisdom. The Kappa Upsilon chapter at the University of Texas at Austin aims to promote the study of life in all its forms, just as the founders of TriBeta intended.
